South Africa won the first of two Tests against New Zealand by an innings and 27 runs at Newlands, in Cape Town, on Friday.

New Zealand were all out for 275 in their second innings after a pitiful 45 all out in the first.

Dale Steyn took three wickets while Vernon Philander and Jacques Kallis took two apiece.

Morne Morkel and Robin Peterson took the remaining two wickets.

Dean Brownlie hit a maiden Test century for New Zealand but could not prevent a South African victory on the third day.

He had scored 109 runs off 186 balls including 13 fours and two sixes.

South Africa made 347 for eight, declared in their only innings.

Vernon Philander was Man of the Match for his phenomenal bowling performance of five for seven in the Black Caps demolition on day one.
