Sep 26 2013:Two teams that came into the Champions League Twenty20 2013 with high expectations and as the domestic champions of their countries find themselves in a do-or-die situation ahead of their clash on Friday (September 27).
Mumbai Indians were scheduled to face Highveld Lions in Ahmedabad, but the relentless rains in that city meant that the clash will now take place at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Both sides have been on the receiving end of a washout and a loss against Rajasthan Royals, and have only two points with two matches in hand in Group A. With Rajasthan and Otago Volts pulling away from the pack, the losing side on Friday will effectively be out of the running for a semifinal spot.
Skipper Rohit Sharma shows good form while Kieron Pollard is also impressive with a 36-ball 47 down the order. Besides these two batsmen, Dwayne Smith, Dinesh Kartik and Ambati Rayudu have the ability to score more runs.
Mumbai’s bowling department failed to take off against Rajasthan in the absence of match-winning pacer Lasith Malinga. Pacer Mitchell Johnson, who was selected instead of Malinga went wicketless, while Nathan Coulter-Nile and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh could not make any impression.
The Lions are under pressure as they face Mumbai. Against Royals, they looked pretty unskilled and have to do more to pose any challenge to the difficult Mumbai Indians.
Neil McKenzie is out due to injury, in the middle order. But, the Lions’ batsmen appear to be better equipped as compared to Mumbai on the hard and bouncy pitch at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
